Many of us will be isolated from our friends and churches this year. We can use this opportunity to sing with our brothers and sisters around the world and make 2020 a Pascha to remember!
It is now possible to transcend the Coronavirus lockdown by joining an international online choir. The choir are preparing one simple hymn for Orthodox Easter (April 19th). To join, you must record your part at home and submit it by text, email, Facebook or Instagram by Saturday 18th.
The Anthem is Turchaninov’s ‘Only Begotten Son.’ All you need to do to take part is download the sheet music (copies are provided in Cyrillic and Roman script), sing your part to the Karaoke track provided and submit your video.
If you don’t usually read music, recordings of each individual part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass), are provided to help you learn the tune of your line. A soundtrack with the pronunciation is also available.

For those who are curious about the context of the music itself, it is a 19th-century setting of what Holy Orthodoxy calls the ‘Hymn of Justinian.’ It refers to the prophecy of Zechariah. The text is as follows:
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.Only Begotten Son and Immortal Word of God,
Who for our salvation didst will to be incarnate
of the holy Theotokos and ever virgin Mary,
Who without change didst become man
and wast crucified, O Christ our God,
Trampling down death by death,
Who art one of the Holy Trinity,
Glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
save us.
