Day of Family Became an Official State Holiday in Russia, Closing "Pride" Month with a Golden Key

By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin on June 28, 2022, established the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity in Russia. 

"In order to preserve traditional family values and spiritual and moral upbringing of children and youth, I resolve to establish the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity and celebrate it on July 8," reads the text of the decree published on the official Internet portal of legal information. 

On the day of the holiday, July 8, the Russian Orthodox Church honors the memory of prince Peter, alias David, and princess Fevronia, alias Euphrosyne, miracle workers of Murom, who are the patrons of marriage. 

For the first time the all-Russian celebration of the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness took place on July 8, 2008, it was organized by the Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives, headed by S. V. Medvedeva. The main celebrations are traditionally held in Murom, Vladimir region. 

Now this day will be officially celebrated in Russia as a state holiday.
