The Church fights for the life of every person, so its position on the need to ban abortion is understandable, said the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, calling children “a gift of God.”
"I know the position of the Church. It cannot have another position. It fights for the life of every person," said the head of state on December 14, 2023, at a combined direct line and press conference.
According to the Russian leader, the solution to the issue of abortion lies on two levels — “appealing to traditional values, one of which is a large family, education in the sense that a child is a gift from God, for both women and men, and of course this lies in the sphere of material well-being."
In addition, the head of state believes that there is still work to be done in terms of providing medical care to women in labor, and supporting families with children.
“There is something to work on there, we need to work on the pace at which we need to put in order the maternity wards of district hospitals, and think about how to continue to work to support families with children,” the Russian President concluded.
