Saint Luke is loved and deeply revered, including in Greece. Metropolitan Panteleimon (Kalpakidis) of Veria, Naoussa and Campania of the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople recently spoke about two modern miracles performed by the holy surgeon and archpastor Luke in Greece, which he learned about from one priest and one pious layman.
Metropolitan Panteleimon says:
Today I would like to tell you about two miraculous apparitions of St. Luke, described by our brothers who themselves experienced this.
A priest from Mytilene spoke about the first of them:
“About five years ago I was preparing for open-heart surgery at the Onassis hospital,” he writes.
“On the eve of the operation, the professor’s assistant comes up to me and asks: “Are you from Mytilene?” Are you I.’s father?”
When I assured him that I was indeed that priest, he told me:
“Last night Saint Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea, came to me in a dream and said: “Tomorrow you will operate on a priest from Mytilene. His name is I. I will be next to you and tell you exactly what to do."
“It should be noted that I then saw this assistant professor for the first time, and he had also never met me before. Five years have passed since then, and by his blessing and his great miraculous grace I am completely healthy, glorifying God and St. Luke.”
Our brother from the community of Viron (a suburb of Athens) spoke about the second phenomenon:
“In December 2010, the venerable relics of St. Luke were brought to the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Viron for veneration. I went to bow to them and asked the saint to help me, since in a few days I was supposed to have an operation.
On December 20, I underwent surgery to remove lymph nodes due to cancer at the Evgenidion Hospital in Athens.
During the operation, when I was under general anesthesia, I saw a tall man with a long beard, dressed like a doctor, wearing glasses, standing to my left and looking very serious. He told me:
"Be calm, don't be afraid."
He then carefully observed the doctors who were on the right side and were operating on me. Without a doubt, it was Saint Luke - I recognized him from the icons.
The recovery of my body after general anesthesia was very fast, and the operation was successful,” concluded our brother, expressing gratitude to St. Luke for his protection and patronage that he provides to those who believe and ask him for help.
