The Chelyabinsk diocese and the Rus charitable foundation will cooperate in providing assistance to those in need within the framework of the agreement signed on February 5, 2021.

On behalf of the diocese, an agreement on cooperation in the field of charitable activities was signed by Metropolitan Gregory of Chelyabinsk and Miass, and on behalf of the foundation - the head of the Governing Council, Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich, a representative of the Romanov dynasty, the website of the Chelyabinsk Metropolitanate reports.

"The accomplishment of works of mercy is a very important area of modern church work. The Chelyabinsk diocese is very active in helping those in need. Now, thanks to cooperation with the Rus Foundation, we will have even more such cases", Bishop Gregory said at the signing of the agreement.

"We are grateful to Bishop Gregory. The signing of this agreement is very important for us, it will help to organize the work of the fund. We hope to attract new benefactors and help even more needy people", said, for his part, Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich.

The Board of Trustees of the regional branch of the Rus Foundation is headed by the wife of the regional governor Irina Teksler, who is confident that thanks to the cooperation of the foundation and the diocese, people in need will receive additional support and protection.

"What is the closest thing to people? Where will they go? We need a point where the distribution of this aid will be carried out, and often this is precisely the temple of God. That is why we needed to make this agreement. Those who cannot come for help on their own will be delivered by volunteers from the same Church or from the Rus Foundation", said the head of the Board of Trustees.

Tatiana Dorokhova, director of the regional branch of the foundation, said in her turn that the organization relies on the help of volunteers, among whom there are many believers, in its work.

"We have been working in the region for 10 months, during this time we have been helped by three thousand volunteers, and a significant share of them were volunteers from the Chelyabinsk diocese. On Maslenitsa, March 13, Chelyabinsk will host a large citywide charity marathon. 400 volunteers will simultaneously enter the stores of the Pyaterochka and Perekrestok chains, who will tell customers about our marathon and collect food for those in need. Here, too, the role of the Church is great, because half of the volunteers will come from the Chelyabinsk parishes", she shared.

It is reported that a number of retail chains are transferring unsold remains of food and essential goods to the Rus fund. Then this aid is distributed through Orthodox parishes and socially oriented NGOs.

In the spring of 2020, the Rus Foundation began to work actively in the South Urals. For 10 months, more than 44 thousand food sets were delivered to elderly residents of the region and more than 66 thousand sets - families in difficult life situations. At the same time, the foundation began to cooperate with the Chelyabinsk diocese. It is planned that in the summer of 2021 the foundation will conclude similar agreements with other dioceses of the metropolitanate - Magnitogorsk, Troitsk and Zlatoust.
