Orthodox Western Rite Prayer Book Published in Russian for the First Time

The book presents both documents and articles about the Orthodox Western rite and prayers used in Orthodox Western-Rite communities. . .

Is the Western Rite in Orthodoxy an ancient or a new phenomenon? Can the canons of the Church be revised if they contradict tradition and practice? Should Orthodoxy be only Greek or Slavonic? How does the Catholic and Protestant heritage refract in the light of Orthodoxy?

A unique book, The Orthodox Prayer Book of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of All Russia, will help answer these and many other questions. This eminent saint made it possible for the Book of Common Prayer to be recognized as an Orthodox prayer book, with minor changes. The Holy Synod relied on his position in making this decision. The book presents both documents and articles about the Orthodox Western rite and prayers used in Orthodox Western-Rite communities.

Much of the book is published in Russian for the first time, and also includes a calendar of the saints of the Orthodox West. The illustrations are by the distinctive Belarusian artist Andrei Strotsev.

The book presentation was attended by:
- Feoktist (Igumnov), bishop of Pereslavl and Uglich, author of the foreword to the book;
- Victor Shchedrin, project curator, administrator of the "Western Orthodoxy" group, publicist;
- Alexander Mramornov, historian, editor and publisher of the book.
