"We have women getting pregnant every day in this country, and it's a serious problem," Harris said, commenting on the legislative decision to abolish abortion.

On June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a 1973 decision that enshrined abortion choice as a constitutional right. U.S. President Joe Biden urged Americans to participate in protests against the Supreme Court's decision on abortion.

Abortion is currently banned in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and South Dakota. In Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee, abortion is banned after the first fetal heartbeat, which usually occurs in the sixth week of pregnancy.

On July 16, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill on federal guarantees of abortion rights in the country.
