The Danish government has proposed eliminating age restrictions on gender reassignment for children in its LGBT+ plan, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten reported on August 15.

The Danish government believes that a child should have a legal right to gender reassignment from the moment he or she is born.

In this regard, a new LGBT+ plan has been presented where the age limit on gender reassignment in children has been completely abolished.

The plan stipulates that children under the age of 15 must obtain parental consent.

Currently, the age limit is 18.

The government plans to submit the proposal in October.

There is no unanimity among parliamentarians on the issue of lowering the age of gender reassignment.

The Conservative Party representative for gender equality, Birgitte Bergmann, believes that children should be allowed to remain children.

Previously, in 2020, the ruling party presented a similar initiative. However, after consultation with the Ethics Council, the government adjusted the age of sex change of children from 10-12 years old. After two years, the Social Democratic government returned to the original idea of allowing sex change in infants.
