Saint Tikhon Orthodox Church (Blountville, Tennessee), in cooperation with the Synodal School of Liturgical Music, is pleased to announce an English-language Liturgical Music Symposium, to be held October 20th through 22nd, 2022, on the parish grounds in Blountville, Tennessee.
With experienced instructors in a variety of disciplines, including vocal technique, conducting, and liturgics, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their own understanding and experience in these areas. In addition to a keynote lecture, hands-on workshops in music and liturgics, a round-table discussion, and choral practice, the symposium participants will sing the divine services on Friday evening and Saturday morning for the feast to the Apostle James the Lesser.
Workshop topics will include “The Order of Divine Services” (with Archpriest Matthew Williams and Peter Fekula), “Voice & Diction” (with Laryssa Doohovskoy), “Conducting”, “Church Reading”, and others. The work of the symposium will especially seek to address the challenges faced by new and smaller choirs, which often have frequent shifts in singers (and experience levels) from service to service.
The symposium will open with Vespers at 5pm on October 20th, followed by refreshments, introductions, and an initial choral practice. Sessions will continue through Friday and Saturday and conclude with a round table discussion on Saturday afternoon, prior to the regularly scheduled weekend services at the parish.
Participants may book accommodations at the Bristol Hampton Inn at a discounted rate of $150 per night. For further details regarding hotel accommodations, or for any other questions related to the symposium, please contact symposium@sainttikhonroc.org.
