This lovely Russian actress — Svetlana Kopylova — spent years in the film industry and later became a popular Russian folk singer. She has recorded 17 albums, and much of the lyrical subject matter is about the Orthodox Christian Faith.

In this song, she tells the true story of Gregory Zhuravlev, a famous artist who had no hands. He held a paintbrush in his mouth, creating exquisite works of art for the Emperor of Russia, and also for a number of churches in Russia. Svetlana's singing is beautiful:

"Kaleka" - by Svetlana Kopylova

Svetlana Kopylova

He had no feet, he had no hands,
he couldn't feed himself or stand
just a piece of a man -
made according to God's plan
But his soul knew how to fly
like a balloon up in the sky
He worshiped God with all his soul -
He loved the One who made him so

With no job that he could pursue
He sat and peered into the blue
With heaven almost in his view
He would sing every song he knew
His dad would carry him away
to the church, where he could pray
and there he sang with all his soul
to the One who made him so

He had no complaint or dread
and the Psalms he gladly read
When mockers left no curse unsaid
he forgave and prayed instead
He dreamed of painting with great skill
his mouth could hold a paintbrush still
and as his skill began to grow
he drew the One who made him so

He had no feet, he had no hands,
he couldn't feed himself or stand
Yet icons painted by this man
adorned the church by God's good plan
And then his soul began to fly
like a balloon up in the sky
departing earth so he could go
to the One who made him so

Original Russian Lyrics:
-------------------------------------
