Russian Church Supports Pro-life Bill, Paying Pregnant Women to Avoid Abortion

According to the initiative, it is proposed to issue a certificate to pregnant women, giving the right to a monthly payment of 20 thousand rubles for a year and a half

Maria Studenikina, head of the maternity protection division of the Synodal Charity Department, director of the Moscow "House for Mom", supported the proposal for monthly payments to pregnant women of 20 thousand rubles.

Information that the State Duma of Russia is preparing a corresponding bill in order to keep pregnant women from abortion has previously appeared in the media. According to the initiative, it is proposed to issue a certificate to pregnant women, giving the right to a monthly payment of 20 thousand rubles for a year and a half, reports RIA Novosti.

"The payment of 20 thousand rubles over a year and a half is a significant help, especially for pregnant women in a crisis situation. I am sure many will decide in favor of maintaining the pregnancy, realizing that they will be provided for within 18 months. We hope that the measure will not be implemented at the expense of maternity capital", Maria Studenikina commented on this initiative to the agency.

According to the representative of the Church, the deterioration in the financial situation of Russians due to the situation with the coronavirus also negatively affects the birth rate today.

“Such a measure will become an effective tool to support pregnant women, and, no less important, timely”, says Maria Studenikina regarding the possible establishment of the proposed payments.
