On September 13, 2023, the Pope expressed hope that in 2025 the Roman Catholic Church will celebrate Easter together with representatives of the Malankara Church, the website infovaticana.com reports. During a meeting with the Primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India, Catholicos Basil Mar Thomas Matthew III, Pope Francis expressed his desire to “celebrate together the 1700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.”

“I want us all to celebrate this event together,” said the pontiff, who said “the divisions that have occurred throughout history among us Christians are painful wounds inflicted on the Body of Christ, which is the Church.”

He noted that “if we together, like the Apostle Thomas, proclaim that Jesus is our Lord and our God, if with a humble heart and with reverence we commit ourselves to His grace, we can hasten that long-awaited day when, with His help, we will celebrate The sacrament of Easter at one altar,” the pope emphasized.

“In the meantime, dear brother, let us walk together in prayer that purifies us, in charity that unites us, in dialogue that brings us closer,” the pope said. He also noted that “pastoral ecumenism is the natural path to full unity.”

The Patriarchate of Constantinople (Phanar) Advocated Calendar Changes and a Common Celebration of Pascha (Easter) with the Papists.

A representative of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Archbishop Job (Gecha) of Telmis, stated that the Phanar is ready for calendar reform and the common celebration of Easter “with various Christian churches”.

He noted that on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council held at Nicaea in 325, the World Council of Churches plans to organize a Commission for the World Conference of Faith and Order “to commemorate this anniversary and reflect on the transmission of the apostolic faith today.”

“The purpose of this conference will not be to study the history of the Council or study its theology, but rather to reflect on what “visible unity” means today for the various Christian churches and how Christians can collectively promote, preach and live the apostolic faith,” the spokesman noted.

He recalled that "the Council of Nicaea not only proclaimed the Creed... but also ensured the common celebration of Easter for the entire Christian world," which, in his opinion, was a manifestation of "unity in the faith."

Having talked about the difference in the celebration of the date of Easter between Orthodox and Western Christians, Archbishop Job recalled that “the question of revising the calendar and a single date for Easter was raised in the Orthodox Church several times during the twentieth century,” and after the “Pan-Orthodox Congress” in Istanbul, held in 1923 and convened by Patriarch Meletius IV of Constantinople, an attempt was made to “partially revise the calendar.”

However, a Phanar spokesman noted, “faced with the reluctance of some Orthodox Christians to accept the ‘Roman Catholic’ Gregorian calendar, the Serbian astronomer Milutin Milanković proposed a revised Julian calendar.

According to Archbishop Job, “the question of the calendar and the general date of Easter was included among the 17 topics that were to be considered by the future Great Holy Council of the Orthodox Church,” however, “the Council of Primates of the Orthodox Churches, held in Chambésy in January 2016, decided to exclude this issue from the agenda, fearing that the calendar reform will lead to a new schism in the Orthodox Church.

“Perhaps the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea in 2025 will be a good occasion to educate Christians about the need for calendar reform and a common date for Easter in order to remain faithful to the decisions of the First Ecumenical Council,” emphasized the deceitful hierarch of Phanar, who has taken the path of betrayal of Christ and the Church, and “the fact that the eastern and western dates of Easter will coincide this year should be taken as encouragement in this direction ,” he concluded.

The Roman Catholic "Church" welcomed the Constantinople Patriarchate's idea of celebrating Easter together by 2025.
