A major legal victory was won in Moscow this week, as an Orthodox pro-life movement successfully initiated the first criminal case against representatives of the pro-abortion movement.

Lawyers of the “For Life and the Protection of Family Values” movement, headed by Archpriest Maxim Obukhov, rector of the Church of St. Boniface in Moscow, have brought a case against pro-abortionists under the article of the Russian criminal code for slander and libel, reports Pro-Life Belarus.

The case is a landmark, the outlet writes, after years of impunity and a lack of reaction from law enforcement have given the pro-abortion movement freedom to fight, including in criminal ways, against those who believe in the value of human life.

In the given a case, a photo of a pro-life activist was posted on a prostitution website and the site was spread around. Thus, under nearly every pro-life post or comment she made on social media, pro-abortionists responded that no one asked such a woman’s opinion about morality.

They also threatened to spread this lie to her husband and other family members, her children’s caregivers, and others.

But despite threats of violence, insults, threats to call child protective services against her, death threats, and demands to immediately stop publicly speaking out against abortion, the girl did not stop her pro-life activities and wasn’t afraid to seek counsel and to report the incidents to the police.

The “For Life” legal team believes that the given case is the beginning of a long road to holding pro-abortion representatives legally accountable for their actions again. Other such cases are expected to be initiated in the near future.
